Abridged Policy Manual

Topic 1 of 8 12 min

This topic is a condensed reference for the key policies from the Cassano’s employee handbook. It is not a replacement for reading the full handbook — but it covers the rules most relevant to your day-to-day work.

Attendance

  • Be on time. Arriving more than 5 minutes late is considered tardy.
  • Excessive tardiness — more than two occurrences in a 30-day period — is subject to progressive discipline
  • Attendance is tracked. A pattern of absences affects your standing regardless of the reason for each individual absence

Calling Off

  • Call your manager directly — do not text a coworker and assume the message was passed along
  • Call as early as possible — the minimum is the amount of time agreed upon with your store manager
  • If you cannot reach your manager, keep calling until you do. Leaving a voicemail does not count as notification
  • See L26 — Scheduling & Call-Off Procedures for the full call-off rules

No-Call, No-Show

A no-call, no-show is when you do not show up for a scheduled shift and do not notify anyone:

  • First offense: Written warning
  • Second offense within 90 days: Termination

This is a serious matter. If something prevents you from making it in and you physically cannot call, have someone call for you.

Cash Handling

  • Count your drawer at the start of your shift. If it is off, tell your manager before you start
  • Never leave the register drawer open and unattended
  • Do not make change from your own money
  • All voids and comps require manager approval
  • Report till discrepancies to your manager at the end of your shift — do not attempt to balance it yourself

Shortages

  • A shortage is when your drawer is short at the end of a shift
  • Repeated shortages will be investigated and may result in disciplinary action
  • Theft from the register is immediate termination — see L15

Tip Handling (Drivers)

  • Tips belong to the driver and are not shared with in-store staff unless your location has a posted tip-sharing policy
  • Do not pocket tips on deliveries where the card was charged — handle per your manager’s instructions
  • Do not solicit additional tips or suggest dissatisfaction with the amount given

Personal Property

  • Cassano’s is not responsible for personal items left in the store
  • Keep valuables in your vehicle or leave them at home
  • Personal items must not be stored in food prep areas

Customer Property

  • If a customer leaves something behind, secure it and notify your manager
  • Do not use, keep, or discard items a customer leaves behind

Media and Photography

  • Do not photograph POS screens, order receipts, customer information, or back-of-house operations
  • Do not record video inside the store without manager permission
  • See L18 — Social Networking Policy for the full rules

Employee Purchases

  • Employees receive a $7.00 meal allowance per scheduled work day
  • The allowance applies to regular-priced kitchen-prepared items only
  • Prepackaged items — chips, pies, pizza packs, cookies — are not included and must be purchased at full price
  • The allowance cannot be applied to items for non-employees or carried over to another day
Full Handbook

The complete Cassano’s Employee Handbook covers additional policies not summarized here. Your manager can provide a copy. Questions about policies not covered in this training should go to your manager or the district manager.
